Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at support@almabehaviorsolutions.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is a science-based therapy focused on understanding and improving behavior. ABA uses techniques rooted in learning theory to bring about meaningful and positive changes in behavior. These strategies are personalized to each individual's needs and can help build communication, social skills, daily living skills, reduce challenging behaviors, and more. At ALMA Behavior Solutions, our ABA programs are data-driven, compassionate, and focused on empowering each client to reach their full potential.

We believe that neurodivergent minds, including those of autistic individuals are valuable and should be supported, not “fixed.”

Neurodiversity-affirming care means:

  • We respect your child’s individuality, preferences, and communication style
  • We prioritize your child’s safety, autonomy, and personal fulfillment
  • We focus on teaching skills that are meaningful to your family
  • We include caregivers as collaborative partners, because your input matters

Our mission is to help children thrive as they are not to change who they are.

We provide services to individuals ages 2 through adulthood.  Services are tailored to each person's developmental level and individualized goals.

Direct 1:1 In-Home Therapy
This is individualized ABA therapy provided in the client’s home. A trained behavior technician works one-on-one with the individual under the supervision of a BCBA to target personalized goals. These may include communication, self-help, behavior reduction, daily routines, or family collaboration. This setting allows for highly customized teaching in the child or adult’s natural environment.

Social Skills Groups
These are small group sessions designed to help individuals practice and build social communication, emotional regulation, and peer interaction skills. Groups are organized by age and developmental level and provide structured opportunities for learning how to navigate friendships, teamwork, conversations, and social expectations in a supportive, neurodiversity-affirming environment.

Life Skills Groups & Vocational Training
These group services focus on developing practical, real-world skills that support independence and community involvement—especially for teens and adults. Participants may work on skills such as personal hygiene, money management, grocery shopping, meal prep, job readiness, or workplace etiquette. Vocational supports may include mock interviews, resume building, or practicing tasks that prepare individuals for supported or independent employment.

Each service type serves a unique purpose, and in some cases, individuals may benefit from participating in more than one, depending on their goals and level of support needed.

Your child may be ready for a social group if they:

  • Can follow simple instructions with minimal prompting
  • Demonstrate some basic communication (verbal or nonverbal)
  • Can stay engaged in a small group setting for short periods
  • Show interest in peers or group activities
  • Are working toward improving social interaction goals

Before joining a group, our team will conduct an assessment to determine readiness and group placement. If your child isn’t quite ready yet, we may recommend continuing with 1:1 therapy until they build the foundational skills needed for success in a group environment.

Most insurance plans that include ABA therapy benefits will cover services that are medically necessary and provided under the supervision of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA). This typically includes:

  • Direct 1:1 ABA Therapy (home, or center based)
  • Parent training and caregiver guidance
  • Social skills groups, when they are part of a treatment plan and clinically justified

However, there are some services that may not be covered or may have limited coverage depending on the plan and provider. These may include:

  • Life skills groups and vocational training (especially if they are considered educational or not directly tied to a treatment goal)
  • Recreational activities
  • Services not authorized in advance or not supervised by a BCBA

Coverage can vary significantly between insurance companies and plans. We work closely with each family to verify benefits, obtain authorizations, and determine what services are eligible for coverage. If a service is not covered, we will always discuss alternative options and any potential out-of-pocket costs with you ahead of time.

If you have questions about what your insurance covers, we’re happy to help guide you through the process.
